    The Los Angeles Times is looking for an executive producer who can help push our podcast and audio efforts to new heights and develop the future of audio at The Times. The ideal candidate would create a culture of experimentation and define a distinctive voice that can evolve in a competitive marketplace.


    In this role, you would build a team to produce best-in-class work and oversee all audio programming, whether interview and discussion shows or investigative deep dives. This is an amazing opportunity to leverage the reporting muscle of the aggressive, well-sourced journalists in the newsroom that produced “Dirty John” and to shape the audio strategy of an institution that wants to produce many more podcasts of that caliber and reach.


    • Provide hands-on editorial direction
    • Manage development of all audio offerings, including podcasts and voice devices
    • Build and manage a team of producers, editors and engineers
    • Review and greenlight show pitches
    • Set assignments for staff and freelancers
    • Collaborate with reporters and editors in the Los Angeles Times newsroom
    • Ensure shows meet our high journalistic and creative standards
    • Provide regular feedback on each show and coaching for staff
    • Set goals and indicators for success, including audience and subscriber growth
    • Manage audio programming budget
    • Establish training in audio best practice
    • Oversee promotion with engagement and marketing teams


    • A track record of excellence in audio journalism
    • Experience developing successful podcasts
    • Demonstrated ability to define and sharply focus audio programming
    • Experience managing audio teams, in either podcasting or broadcast
    • Strong leadership skills, including managing workload and personnel
    • Experience recruiting and developing staff
    • A collaborative approach to working across the newsroom
    • A passion for taking creative, exploratory risks
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience
