    The Los Angeles Times is looking for a transactional attorney to join the growing and rebuilding media company as it moves forward with private ownership.  The attorney will support internal clients in the corporate, technology, marketing, advertising, events, finance/procurement, circulation, distribution, printing, and other departments as needed.  The attorney will also help to provide legal services for the San Diego Union-Tribune and other publications owned by the company.  This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment on a variety of important issues: from negotiating tech or digital media transactions to drafting and reviewing key agreements to handling privacy, environmental or regulatory issues to assisting with corporate governance. 



    Depending on experience, responsibilities may include:

    • drafting, revising and interpreting contracts in connection with the news business, including supplier, printing and distribution agreements, digital media and tech licensing agreements, sponsorship agreements, advertising and marketing agreements, talent and professional services agreements, event-related agreements, production agreements, data analytics agreements, and the like;
    • providing legal advice and guidance on information privacy, safety, environmental, distribution, printing, regulatory, sweepstakes or contests, IT and telecom services, IP transactions, and other business issues;
    • updating policies and guidelines to ensure best practices, minimize risk, and promote compliance with state and federal laws and regulations; 
    • working with internal leaders to solve issues and promote the objectives of the business.


    • Member of State Bar of California;
    • At least three years’ experience in the corporate department at a top law firm or equivalent corporate or government entity;
    • Demonstrated experience drafting and editing complex transactional agreements;
    • Licensing experience in the media or entertainment industries and/or experience with advertising, marketing and sales organizations;
    • Outstanding academic credentials;
    • Ability to work independently on a range of corporate matters and to balance changing priorities, multiple assignments, and new areas of legal concern on deadline;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Word or equivalent programs or tools.
